Nurturing Women Writers With Tea
Posted on March 18 2021
At Chesser Roe, we have a passion for five things: tea, art, music, books, and community. As a social purpose company, our mission goes beyond tea. We strive to connect in a personal way with our community, and what better way to connect than over tea?
We are excited that one of our first partner relationships is with Hedgebrook, a non-profit organization that fosters a global community of women writers and people who create, read and produce extraordinary books, poetry, plays, films and music by women. Hedgebrook is comprised of six tiny cottages on Whidbey Island (almost like a sister to our island of Vashon), that house up to 40 women a year for residencies, salons, and master classes both at Hedgebrook and around the world. The magic that takes place in those tiny cottages is extraordinary and has resulted in 2000+ books published over 30 years, many award winners.
And what better way to nurture writers than through a lovely cup of tea, right? We thought so too and this Sunday, we are pleased to be a sponsor of Hedgebrook's annual fundraiser, Equivox, held every year at Herban Feast in Seattle.
Here are just a few of our favorite Hedgebrook authors:
- Deborah Harkness, A Discovery or Witches Trilogy.
- Natalie Baszile, Queen Sugar
- Shobha Rao, Girls Burn Brighter
- Karen Joy Fowler, Jane Austen's Book Club
- Ruth Orzeki, A Tale For The Time Being
And songwriters...
- Brandi Carlisle
- Mary Lambert
- Grace Love
We look forward to fostering a wide range of incredible voices. With tea.
